here are the details.
Laird Barrett and Andre Cormier, two MA students in the Brock English
Department have questions about transmission in the arts:What causes an (intended) message-visual, aural, or written-to be
changed/
disrupted/lost/gained during the transmission process?Where does the responsibility lie for the transmission of an
unintended message? Is the recipient responsible? The artist? Are the
processes themselves, the communicative systems we have developed,
responsible?Is a message which is changed by transmission a failure? Or is it
simply a success of our imaginations? Are such terms as success and
failure even appropriate terms for discussing transmission?Laird and I would rather not tackle these issues at a two-chaired
table in lonely corner. We have invited local artists to present
their writings at an "anti-symposium" designed to showcase, first and
foremost, their talant, and second, make a collective effort of our
